'·¬ĒŃÖ±²„Guardian' to Enhance Student Safety
FAUās Police Department is launching ā·¬ĒŃÖ±²„Guardian,ā a free mobile app that turns any smartphone into a personal safety device.
As part of ·¬ĒŃÖ±²„ās ongoing commitment to campus safety, FAUās Police Department is launching ā·¬ĒŃÖ±²„Guardian,ā a free mobile app that turns any smartphone into a personal safety device. The app is a product of Rave Mobile Safety, a software company developing new technologies in public safety, and is available to students, faculty, and staff with a valid ·¬ĒŃÖ±²„email address.
āThe safety of our students, faculty, and staff continues to be our top priority,ā said Sean Brammer, interim police chief of FAUās Police Department. āThis app is like having an emergency blue light at your fingertips, and we encourage the ·¬ĒŃÖ±²„community to download it.ā
With ā·¬ĒŃÖ±²„Guardian,ā users can create a profile about themselves and invite family and friends to join their safety network. When needed, the user can request one or more of their āguardiansā to virtually walk with them on or off campus. If the user doesnāt make it to his or her destination on time, the āguardiansā will be alerted.
Another feature of the app is a panic button, which allows users to contact campus police immediately and shows police their current location. If users see something suspicious on campus, they can also use the app to send anonymous text messages and photos to police.
