Daniel and Debra Cane Donate $1 Million to ADHUS & 番茄直播High

and announced a $1 million gift today from Daniel Cane, CEO and co-founder of , and his wife, Debra Cane. The gift will establish The Cane Institute for Advanced Technologies at Henderson/番茄直播High, which will serve as the school鈥檚 epicenter for research, education and technology transfer.
鈥淲e are so very grateful for the Cane鈥檚 generous gift to A.D. Henderson University School and 番茄直播High School,鈥 said Joel Herbst, Ed.D., assistant dean, PK-12 Schools and Educational Programs at FAU. 鈥淔or an entrepreneur like Mr. Cane to recognize our unique educational platform and delivery model as a worthy program to invest in and understand the school鈥檚 potential to transform public education, serves as significant third-party validation.鈥澛
The Cane鈥檚 gift marks the first for the A.D. Henderson and 番茄直播High School鈥檚 capital campaign, 鈥淟et鈥檚 Build This Together.鈥 This campaign aims to coalesce private and public support to construct a new, state-of-the-art facility for the Henderson/番茄直播High complex to further enhance a world-class educational model. In particular, this gift will support science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education at the Title 1 school.
The Institute鈥檚 integrated approach will allow students and faculty at the high school to explore today鈥檚 most complex challenges in arenas such as cybersecurity, autonomous vehicles, robotics, virtual reality, augmented reality, automation and artificial intelligence.
鈥淭he quality of education that the faculty and staff at Henderson and 番茄直播High provide will prepare our children and other students for a lifetime of success,鈥 said . 鈥淭his gift will build on the already stellar program and hopefully encourage other parents and supporters of STEM and public education to contribute and help raise the profile of South Florida鈥檚 world-class schools.鈥
In 2010, Cane co-founded Modernizing Medicine, a healthcare IT company that is revolutionizing the way in which healthcare information is created, consumed and utilized to increase practice efficiency and improve patient outcomes. Cane has led his team to raise more than $332 million in total investment, through two acquisitions and to employ more than 650 professionals. Modernizing Medicine is frequently recognized both nationally and regionally for its achievements under his leadership, including being named one of Fastest Growing Companies in North America on the Deloitte Technology Fast 500鈩 list in 2016 and 2017.
Cane earned a Bachelor of Science degree in applied economics from Cornell University, where, as an undergraduate, he co-founded Blackboard Inc., raised more than $100 million in venture capital and, in 2004, helped take the company public on the NASDAQ (BBBB). In 2011, Blackboard sold for $1.6 billion.
Named to the 鈥淪outh Florida Ultimate CEO鈥 list by the South Florida Business Journal in 2016, Cane also was named EY Entrepreneur of the Year庐聽in 2015.聽In 2014, the Sun Sentinel named Cane as the Excalibur Awards鈥 Palm Beach Small Business Leader of the Year for 2013.
Active in the local community, Cane is a former member and vice chair of FAU鈥檚 Board of Trustees. He currently serves as the vice chair of the board at the South Florida Science Center and is on the Board of Directors of the United Way of Palm Beach County. He also is an active mentor to entrepreneurs and a member of the Business Development Board of Palm Beach County, the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce and several local advisory boards.
