Diplomacy Program's First Endowed Scholarship Fund
Diplomacy Program announces its first endowed scholarship fund, established by Les and Judy Fishman.
ֱ’s Diplomacy Program is pleased to announce its first endowed scholarship fund. Established by Les and Judy Fishman, longtime supporters to the Diplomacy Program, the Jack Fishman and Marvin Helf Endowment honors both of their fathers while benefitting ֱstudents who participate annually in Model United Nation competitions in Washington, D.C., Seattle, Portland, and elsewhere.
“Judy and I are privileged to be able to make a difference in the lives of those who have committed to bettering themselves through higher education and who strive to become our nation’s next leaders,” said Les Fishman.
FAU’s Diplomacy Program was established by Morton in 1996 for students interested in international affairs. It offers them opportunities to enhance their diplomatic skills in areas such as speech writing, public speaking, negotiation, dispute resolution and research. Diplomatic competitions provide simulations of major international organizations as participating schools are assigned countries and their students serve as diplomats of their assigned country.
“The University’s Diplomacy Program would not be possible if not for the remarkable outpouring of public support from people like Les & Judy Fishman,” said Jeffrey Morton, Ph.D., ֱprofessor of political science and director of the ֱDiplomacy Program. “Students’ lives are changed forever through their experience in major competitions and diplomatic training programs. It is wonderful to see our nation’s greatest generation support the aims, ambitions and dreams of our next generation of world leaders.”
