ֱCelebrates National Engineers Week
ֱ’s College of Engineering and Computer Science will celebrate “Engineers Week 2016: Engineering the Tides of Change” from Monday, Feb. 22 to Friday, Feb. 26.
Former NASA astronaut Steve Swanson will visit ֱas part of National Engineers Week.
ֱ’s College of Engineering and Computer Science will celebrate “Engineers Week 2016: Engineering the Tides of Change” from Monday, Feb. 22 to Friday, Feb. 26. The annual week of events is designed to increase awareness of the engineering profession and recognize the accomplishments and contributions engineers make to society.
All events will take place at FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road.
Kickoff Event
Monday, Feb. 22 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Traditions Plaza
Former NASA astronaut and ֱalumnus Steve Swanson will give the opening remarks, followed by music, food, games, demos and more.
Brain Bowl
Monday, Feb. 22 from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
The Burrow, Student Union
Teams of four students from each discipline will answer trivia questions while classmates cheer for them. This event includes raffles and prizes.
Steve Swanson Presentation
Tuesday, Feb. 23 from 10 to 11 a.m.
Grand Palm Room, Student Union
Former NASA astronaut and ֱalumnus Steve Swanson will speak to students about his experiences on the International Space Station and about life as an astronaut.
Walk on Water Competition
Tuesday, Feb. 23 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
ֱCampus Recreation Center Pool
Teams designed floating shoes for a competition to see which shoe is able to cross a swimming pool first without falling to the bottom of the pool. Awards will be in the following categories: fastest shoes; best analysis; and most creative.
Technical Career Fair
Wednesday, Feb. 24 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
ֱCampus Recreation Center, MAC Gym
Employers will be on-hand to speak with student seeking a job in the fields of engineering, computer science, information systems/technology, and other technology-related areas.
IoT Hardware Hackathon
Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 5 p.m.
Engineering East 213 & 208B
Teams of students will prototype an internet-connected device to solve a given challenge. All teams will receive free hardware to prototype and develop their designs, as well as training from IBM engineers on using Bluemix web services for the Internet of Things (IoT).
Professional Mixer
Wednesday, Feb. 24 from 6 to 8 p.m.
The Burrow, Student Union
Network with fellow students and members of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Broward Professional Chapter. All majors are welcome to attend.
IoT Hardware Hackathon Finals
Thursday, Feb. 25 from 2 to 4:30 p.m.
Engineering East, The Cube
Teams will present their final demos at 2 p.m. and prizes will be announced at 4 p.m.
Dean’s Forum
Friday, Feb. 26 from 4 to 5 p.m.

Meet Mohammad Ilyas, Ph.D., dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science. Submitted questions will be discussed at the forum.
