OLLI at ֱJupiter to Present ‘Healthy Aging and Your Brain’ Series

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at ֱ in Jupiter will bring together Johns Hopkins Medicine experts for a virtual lectures series, “Healthy Aging and Your Brain Series,” via Zoom webinars.
The series will feature:
- Monday, July 13 at 1:30 p.m., “Stroke, Dementia, Motor Learning & Brain Recovery: The Mystery of the Human Brain” presented by John Hopkins University School of Medicine experts Esther Oh, M.D., Ph.D., an associate professor of medicine, psychiatry and behavioral sciences, and pathology; Mona Bahouth, M.D., Ph.D., an assistant professor of neurology; and John Krakauer, M.D., M.A., the John C. Malone professor of neurology, neuroscience, and physical medicine and rehabilitation, and director of the brain, learning, animation, and movement lab (www.BLAM-lab.org). This panel will review the latest evidence suggesting what can be done to change the course of cognitive decline and prevent dementia, discuss new research findings regarding a relationship between urinary tract infections and stroke, and examine research about motor learning and brain repair at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
- Wednesday, July 15 at 1:30 p.m., “Taking Care of Yourself: During COVID and Beyond,” presented by Neda Gould, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist and assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. This lecture will review the practice of staying present in the moment with mindfulness and meditation, and the benefits individuals will receive by lowering chronic stress, anxiety, blood pressure and pain intensity while also improving focus, memory, and even immune function.
- Friday, July 17 at 1:30 p.m., “The Mind-Gut Connection,” presented by Glenn Jordan Treisman, M.D., Ph.D., the Eugene Meyer III professor of psychiatry and medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. This lecture will examine how the gut has a “mind of its own” that can intervene in a person’s happiness as well as gastrointestinal disorders.
