Osher LLI at ֱAnnounces Faculty-in-Residence Program

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at ֱ in Jupiter will host two lectures by Taylor Hagood, Ph.D., a professor of American literature at FAU, and Joseph Urgo, Ph.D., interim executive vice president and provost at the University of Akron, in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute complex at FAU’s John D. MacArthur Campus, 5353 Parkside Dr., inܱ辱ٱ.

On Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 5:30 p.m., Haygood and Urgo will present “The Professor’s Professor: Faulkner, Literature and the Present World.” The lecture will examine William Faulkner’s works and stress the vitality of his writings and of literature generally in our present world.

On Thursday, Feb. 6 at noon, Haygood and Urgo will present “Lunch and Learn: The Perpetual Crisis of American Higher Education.” In this moderated lecture, Haygood and Urgo will discuss the current state of higher education, its leadership needs, and its future.

Haygood received his Ph.D. from the University of Mississippi where he was the Frances Bell McCool Fellow in Faulkner Studies. From 2009-2010, he was a Fulbright professor in the Amerika Institut at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitat in Munch, Germany. Urgo received a M.A. and Ph.D. in American civilization from Brown University. In 2006, he was vice president of academic affairs and dean of faculty at Hamilton College. In 2010, he became president of St. Mary’s College of Maryland.
