Research Park at ֱ Elects Officers
ճ recently elected its 2019 officers, naming as chairman and , as vice chairman.
The Research Park at ֱis governed by the seven-member Florida Atlantic Research and Development Authority, which supports and promotes research and development in affiliation with and related to, ֱand fosters technology-led economic development in Broward and Palm Beach counties. In 2018 its companies invested $42.8 million in R&D and provided employment for 296 ֱinterns and graduates.
Swindell is the president and CEO of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance. Swindell and his team assist local, national, and international companies already doing business in Broward County or prospective companies considering a move. He currently serves on several executive boards including Commercial Real Estate Development Association; South Florida Technology Alliance; Career Source; and is past chairman of the Enterprise Development Corporation. In October 2005, Swindell was appointed by the Broward County Commission to serve as one of the county’s representatives on the Florida Atlantic Research & Development Authority.
“I have always held the strong conviction that the Research Park at ֱis a tremendous resource and competitive advantage for attracting and retaining innovative companies in South Florida,” said Swindell. “As the new authority board chair, I hope to use my role to strengthen regional working relationships between the Research Park and South Florida’s economic development organizations.”
Flynn is vice president for research at FAU. He has published 72 research articles and is the scientific founder of Protea Biosciences, a biotech company based in West Virginia, where he has served on its board for 12 years. Flynn has previously served on the editorial board and advisory committees for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Association of American Medical College and has been an active member of NIH study sections.
“The companies that call the Research Park at ֱhome continue to contribute to our local and regional economy, making a real impact with more than 1,600 full-time jobs,” said Flynn. “We look forward strengthening the companies’ ties to the university’s research enterprise, which will contribute to growing those job numbers and impact.”
Membership of the Research Park’s governing authority consists of three members appointed by the Board of County Commissioners of Palm Beach County, three members appointed by the Board of County Commissioners of Broward County and one member appointed by the president of ֱ.
